The CPD "Duck Rescue Unit" serve as Honorary Duckmasters

Remember our "Duck Rescue Unit" responding to assist a family of ducks on June 11th? Today, Officers Jared Hopper and Arkimides Cervantes had the huge honor of serving as the Honorary Duckmasters at The Peabody Memphis.  They had the privilege of assisting the Peabody's Duckmaster, Kenon Walker, in escorting the ducks from theirUse 6 penthouse suite down through the lobby to the fountain. Visitors from across the U.S. and countries like Australia, Belgium, Ireland, and the Netherlands, had their pictures taken with our "Duck Rescue Unit". It was a huge honor for our officers to serve as Honorary Duckmasters for the day. A big thanks to Duckmaster Kenon Walker and the staff of the Peabody Hotel for this wonderful opportunity.

Did you know the tradition of the Peabody Ducks dates back to 1933 at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, Tennessee? It began as a prank when the hotel's general manager, Frank Schutt, placed duck decoys in the hotel’s fountain. The guests loved it, and what started as a joke became a beloved tradition.

In 1940, bellman Edward Pembroke, a former circus animal trainer, taught the ducks to march to the lobby fountain, creating the now-famous Peabody Duck March. Today, every day at 11 a.m., the ducks are guided from their rooftop home to the lobby fountain and back at 5 p.m., drawing visitors from around the world.
