We are a non-profit, tax-exempt, non-partisan, citizen-run organization. We were initially organized in 1986, and have been in current operation since that time.
Our Mission is to help the police capture criminals by offering Cash Rewards and Anonymity to citizens for information about crimes.
We reward callers for crime Tips to our 24-hour hotline to the Police Department, at 901-457-CASH (2274). Unlike all other lines to the Police Department, calls to our hotline are not recorded or monitored. We get tips from all over the city and county from men, women and kids, all ages, all races, all ethnic origins.
Although we get tips from individuals all over the Mid-South area, for crimes perpetrated over the same geographical area, we actively participate only in those crimes that occur within our city, and the unincorporated areas nearby. We cooperate fully with other Crime Stoppers organizations, such as Memphis, Germantown, Millington, etc., however any calls which we get that are outside of our own area, the Police Department itself makes the contact with those other organizations and Police Departments. By the same token calls taken by other Crime Stoppers organizations in the other cities will notify our Collierville Police Department direct, if the crime had been done in our area.
We pay on arrest/charges/arraignment. If we waited until the person was tried and convicted, that would delay rewards for months, and we really want to reward informants promptly. Such a delay in rewards would certainly be to our disadvantage, as informants usually want their tips to produce almost instant rewards.
Our Board of Directors (all unpaid civilian volunteers) sets policy, develops ideas for increasing public awareness, raises funds, plans special events, screens each individual case, sets reward amounts for tipsters and makes payoffs with our Police Liaison Officer. We also work closely with several organizations under the Collierville Police Department, such as Neighborhood Watch, National Night Out For Crime, the Special Citizen's Patrol, CPD sponsored Explorer Scouts, etc. By Charter, our organization has no Members, only Directors.
In addition to calls regarding felony crimes, the Collierville Crime Stoppers Police Liaison Officer may accept information about any wanted fugitive. When the warrant is verified, if the tipster knows the present location of the fugitive and that location is within the Collierville town limits -- uniform patrol officers are dispatched. If an arrest is made, the tipster is eligible for an award. However, if the warrant is a Collierville Warrant, a previous crime perpetrated in Collierville, then the tipster can be calling from anywhere, and an award will be made, as listed above.
The only crimes that Crime Stoppers of Collierville rewards tips on, are those called into our own hotline. We do not cover calls that that go direct to the Police Department. Our hotline is 901-457-CASH (2274). The CPD emergency line is 911 or 901-853-3207 for non-emergency dispatch.
