Collierville Fire and Rescue is pleased to announce the addition of Joe Pereira as their new Fire Education Specialist. Joe brings firefighting experience and a passion for education to the role, making him an excellent fit for the position.
Joe came from the Seattle area, where he began his firefighting career over a decade ago. He served as a firefighter near Seattle , has worked as a substitute teacher and a fire instructor at the Washington State Fire Training Academy. In 2020, Joe moved to Memphis to join the Memphis Fire Department. In four years, he progressed from an EMT-Basic to an Advanced EMT and most recently, achieved his paramedic certification from Dyersburg State Community College. Joe will be working on a part-time basis with Collierville Fire and Rescue while continuing his role with the Memphis Fire Department.
“When I saw the job posting, it immediately caught my eye. I’m looking forward to engaging with the community and students to share fire safety education. It’s the best of both worlds,” said Joe.
Throughout his career, Joe has enjoyed interacting with the public, whether conducting fire safety tours in schools, performing blood pressure checks in nursing homes, or providing educational sessions at daycares. He believes that public education is a crucial component of fire safety and prevention, he is excited to bring his expertise to Collierville.
Outside of work, Joe is a devoted family man. He and his wife, Julie, have six children ranging from ages 5 up to 17. When asked about what he does in his free time, he laughed, because between two jobs and a house full, there is not much spare time. However, he does enjoy vacationing on the beach whenever they can make it to the coast.
The Town welcomes Joe to Collierville and looks forward to the positive impact he will have on the community by promoting fire safety and prevention through education and outreach programs.
