Request an inspection

Food truck safety fact sheet

Anyone wishing to operate a food service vehicle referenced in IFC section 319 (link above) in the Town of Collierville is required to obtain a fire safety inspection permit from a Town of Collierville Fire Department Fire Inspector. This permit is valid for one year after approval. An inspection tag will be issued and required to be visibly displayed. Any changes to the fire safety systems will require an additional inspection to occur to ensure compliance to minimum codes.

The original inspection must occur prior to any event the vendor wishes to attend in the Town- public or private; no inspections will be performed at an event. Any vendor found to be operating without a permit will be asked to leave until one can be obtained.

The intent is that the safety and well-being of all citizens and employees of the Town of Collierville and those visiting our Town is ensured. This change follows code and ordinance changes that have occurred in Shelby County and other peer municipalities regionally.

There is a multitude of information available for free from all code providers including the ICC and NFPA that should referenced and followed. If a type 1 grease exhaust system is required for your cooking equipment, it shall be serviced and inspected as with any commercial cooking operation. If your vehicle is required by this code to meet these standards, then you should already be aware and meeting them to insure liability and insurance requirements. Trade professionals in the area know this information and are willing and able to assist you to become code compliant. Please make sure to use a Tennessee licensed contractor for trade work and compliance. Many area contractors are licensed in multiple states that you may work in.

This inspection is not intended to specify where you may operate your vehicle in the Collierville Town limits. The Town Planning Dept. and Parks and Recreation Dept. both have applications that the organizer may be responsible for obtaining prior to their event. A site map will be required and vendor set up shall be included so that a review of the proposed location may be performed by multiple responsible Town divisions. At no time will multiple food service vehicles be parked immediate to each other or required emergency service lanes be obstructed.

Please contact the Collierville Fire Marshal's office with questions.
