North Rowlett water line to be replaced

Post Date:10/09/2024 8:51 AM

In September of 2024 the Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved a 1.8-million-dollar contract to replace a 70-year-old waterline on North Rowlett.

The waterline is a 1.1-mile span of 6-inch water main that runs under North Rowlett Street/Abbington Road from Poplar Avenue to Center Street. The construction is scheduled to be replaced starting in October 2024. This project will last one year, and the work is scheduled to take place in three phases.

“The existing water line was installed prior to 1950 and has reached the end of its design life,” said Town Engineer Dale Perryman. “We are replacing the 6-inch water main with an 8-inch ductile iron line, and it will provide more flow and greater pressure.”

Rowlett water line replacement map and phases

The first phase of construction is scheduled to begin around mid to late October starting in Abbington Road from Poplar Ave. to Cooper Street. As part of this phase of construction, Abbington Road will remain open to all traffic so business can operate. Once the work begins on North Rowlett, North Rowlett will be closed to thru traffic but will remain open for local residents. The contractor will have 184 days to complete this phase of construction.

The second Phase of Construction is scheduled to begin spring of 2025. This phase will run from Cooper Street to Walnut Street. As with Phase 1 North Rowlett will be closed from Cooper Street to Walnut Street. Residents that live in this area will have full access to their driveway all the time. However, there may be instances where the contractor is installing the waterline across the frontage of their driveway. During that short period the contractor will work with the resident to gain access to their driveway. The contractor will have 118 days to complete the construction.

The third Phase of Construction is scheduled to begin summer of 2025. This Phase will be located North Rowlett Street and the alley on the west side of the square. There will be times when Mulberry Street and North Rowlett will be closed to connect the new waterline to the existing. The contractor has 63 days to complete the construction in this phase.
